On Thursday (Sept. 15), a man was killed steps from where Sexyy Red was shooting a music video in Florida. But the “SkeeYee” rapper denies the violent incident had anything to do with her set or team.
Red took to her Instagram Story overnight to denounce all rumors about the shooting happening on her set. Instead, she revealed the shooting occurred at a gas station across the street from where she was filming.
She started her social media statement by sending love to the family of the deceased and another person who was wounded.
“I send my condolences to the family of the man who lost his life and prayers for the person who was wounded,” Sexyy Red wrote. “But I gotta address the rumors that it happened at my video shoot bc sh*t is not true, at all. It happened at a gas station across the street from my video set. Florida Highway Patrol and Broward County Sheriff confirmed that the shooting was not on my set.”
According to TMZ, an unidentified assilant opened fire while Sexyy was filming at Oakland Flea Market. Though the wounded person was “rushed to the hospital,” there are no additional updates on their conditon.
A video obtained by the outlet shows law enforcement vehicles in the background and one person lying on the floor near the gas station.
While addressing the shooting, Sexyy Red thanked her team for keeping everyone safe and cooperating with authorities.
“My secure and thanks to my production team getting all the paperwork right and working with the Broward Sheriff’s Office to hire off-duty’s to make sure everyone was safe. We finished the shoot at a different location and everyone from our set went home safely. Period.”
She added:
“I’m just trying to work hard, make good music, connect with my fans. Please don’t try to twist the narratives and put this on a b***h.”
The serious statement comes just hours after the rapper shared an exclusive first look at her “Hellcats SRTs” Remix music video. The drop features Lil Durk and is unrelated to the video she was shooting on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Red also gained some viral attention after describing her “most romantic” experience. She sat with MONTREALITY to dish on the topic, adding that her first boyfriend deserves the credit.
Red said while she was in high school, her “little older” BF “robbed somebody” and gave her the coins and Gucci belt to keep! She said she took the criminal gesture as “sweet” — especially given that it went down on Valentine’s Day.
“I know he didn’t have it. So the fact that you still made a way and you did what you had to do, that was nice,” the rapper dished.
Ultimately, the gifts totaled to $13 and a fake designer belt. But to this day, Sexyy Red said the gesture was a winner.
