Roommates we are wishing Serena Williams a speedy recovery after she suffered an injury to her right leg while competing in the first round at Wimbledon.
Serena received a standing ovation from the crowd as she became emotional while walking off of the court due to her injury. According to ESPN, she slipped which caused her to obtain an injury to her leg. Although she had been hurt she took medical timeouts as she tried to continue on throughout the tournament. However, it eventually became clear that she could not continue on.
She later took to social media to express her disappointment of having to withdraw from the tournament and said, “I was heartbroken to have to withdraw today after injuring my right leg. My love and gratitude are with the fans and the team who make being on centre court so meaningful. Feeling the extraordinary warmth and support of the crowd today when I walked on – and off – the court meant the world to me.”
Serena was the second player that slipped and suffered an injury and was forced to withdraw. Adrian Mannarino also was forced to withdraw after suffering from a similar fall.
Serena’s injury comes after she announced that she will not be competing in this year’s Olympic games in Tokyo. As we previously reported she spoke with reporters ahead of her match at Wimbledon and said, “There’s a lot of reasons that I made my Olympic decision and I don’t feel like going into them today, maybe another day.”
When asked if it would be difficult for her not to compete this year, she added, “I have not thought about it. In the past, it has been a wonderful place for me, but I really haven’t thought about it. So I’m gonna keep not thinking about it.”
We are wishing Serena Williams a speedy recovery.
