Serena Williams Named Top Female Athlete Of The Decade By The Associated Press

#Roommates, it’s no secret that Serena Williams is one of the greatest athletes of all-time, male or female, so her latest honor is the perfect way to acknowledge her greatness. Serena has officially been named the top female athlete of the decade.

Serena Williams is the one of the most decorated and celebrated female athletes in history, as she has dominated tennis for well over 15 years—and she makes it look easy. As various media outlets are compiling their “best of” lists to commemorate the 2010s, @APNews just gave Serena the high ranking of Top Female Athlete of the Decade.

In the past decade, here are just a few of Serena’s many tennis accolades that make her more the worthy of the top athlete title. She has a dozen Grand Slam single titles, in comparison, no other woman had more than three single titles over the past 10 seasons. Serena was also ranked number one for 3 ½ years in a row in the WTA rankings.

She doesn’t only inspire and make history on the court though because practically everything Serena does is newsworthy. Whether it’s triumphs and trophies, fashion statements and the disputes with tournament officials, gracing endless magazine covers, the uplifting Super Bowl ad with a message about female empowerment, the birth of her daughter or the relatable health scare that followed—Serena is an excellent example of just how strong and powerful women are.

Even as she enters a new decade in her late 30s, Serena is still winning matches and reaching Grand Slam finals. Serena was selected by The Associated Press as the Female Athlete of the Decade after a vote by Associated Press sports editors and writers.

Three of Serena’s five AP Female Athlete of the Year awards came during the last decade, in 2013, 2015 and 2018. She also won in 2002 and 2009.

Roommates, what are your thoughts on this?
