Ted Cruz says he is calling on the Department of Justice to investigate Netflix for airing ‘Cuties’–a French film that has been getting backlash for its controversial depiction of young girls. While the film is meant to show the journey of an 11-year-old girl coming of age, Ted Cruz says the dancing and “suggestive” clothing in the film is “disgusting”.
Cruz sat down with Fox news and reveals he wrote a letter to Attorney General Bill Barr, saying that the film “fetishizes and sexualizes these pre-adolescent girls as they perform dances simulating sexual conduct in revealing clothing… These scenes in and of themselves are harmful.”
“And it is likely that the filming of this movie created even more explicit and abusive scenes, and that pedophiles across the world in the future will manipulate and imitate the film in abusive ways,” Ted’s letter reads.
As we previously reported, ‘Cancel Netflix’ was trending last week for releasing the film, after facing backlash for the promotion that showed young girls dancing provocatively.
Netflix also released a statement, saying that the movie is meant to be a “social commentary against the sexualization of young children.”
The statement continues saying: “It’s an award-winning film and a powerful story about the pressure young girls face on social media and from society more generally growing up — and we’d encourage anyone who cares about these important issues to watch the movie.”
