Selena Gomez Takes A Page Out Of Ex Justin Bieber’s Book And Asks Fans To Stream & Buy Her New Album To Knock Roddy Ricch Off Top Spot

They may no longer be in a relationship, but apparently Selena Gomez and ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber still have something in common. It appears that like Justin did earlier this month, Selena is also now asking fans to stream and buy her new album so that she can debut a number one, knocking Roddy Ricch off the top of the charts.

Sure, it’s not uncommon for artists to ask their fans to support their music through streams and physical purchases—but many are side-eyeing both Justin Bieber and now Selena Gomez for their approach to album and single sales.

As you already know, earlier this month, Justin and Roddy were battling it out on the Billboard Hot 100 for the number spot, which ultimately went to Roddy, and many called Justin out for literally begging his fans to stream his single “Yummy” non-stop, so he could beat Roddy, but it didn’t work.

Now, Selena Gomez is doing the exact same thing. Her new album “Rare” was just released and in a few days the chart numbers for the project will be revealed. To ensure that she debuts at number one (Roddy is also number on the album charts) she not only asked her legions of fans to buy and stream it as much as possible—she also posted a video of her with a car full of friends going to buy as many of the albums as they could get their hands on.

In a video of her asking her fans to buy the project, Selena said this:

“So I just found out that my album is neck to neck with another incredible artist. I told people before that, you know, it’s not about numbers for me, but I would love for the most important album I’ve ever released to become number one, so if you don’t mind streaming it or listening to it on all the platforms, it would mean the absolute world to me. This is again something I’ve dreamed about for so long. But regardless I just hope that you guys are enjoying it and that it’s just something that you all can enjoy and have. So, no worries either way I’m happy.”

She continued adding:

“Alright, so one more day to see if I can buy as many albums as possible, so we are currently going to Target and Best Buy and Walmart. Am I like kind of desperate for doing this now? I don’t care. I don’t care, because this album is so rare. I’m very, very, very eager and excited for it to do…Just really stream the album!”

Like he did with Justin, Roddy went to Twitter and posted, asking for fans to stream Selena’s project—which many take as an attempt at shade.

Roommates, what are your thoughts on this?
