Sean Paul has a number of hits under his belt that have kept the parties turned up throughout the years.
However, he has his opinions when it comes to how dancehall is being incorporated into today’s music.
According to Complex, in a recent interview with the Guardian, Sean Paul talks about how artists are using dancehall in their music without giving the proper credit. Two artists he used as examples were both Drake and Justin Bieber.
Sean Paul said, “It is a sore point when people like Drake or Bieber or other artists come and do dancehall orientated music but don’t credit where dancehall came from and they don’t necessarily understand it.”
However, don’t take that as if he doesn’t like any of these artists at all. When it comes to Drake he said, “I love some of his songs but I don’t think he’s the best rapper.”
Nonetheless, he’s become accepting of the different ways dancehall music has been reaching the masses. “Dancehall is back but this time it’s also infused with Afrobeat, with hip-hop, with trap, and that’s fine with me”
He continued, “Sure, I would like what we do in Jamaica, that authentic dancehall, to be on top, but it simply isn’t.”
Roommates what are your thoughts?
