Social media users had some things to say about a white woman’s negative review of the plantation tour she took.
This woman says she went on the tour to learn about the “history” of the plantation but apparently for her, she didn’t want that to include slavery. She was upset that the tour guide, who was also white, actually did their job by telling the history.
“My husband and I were extremely disappointed in this tour. We didn’t come to hear a lecture on how the white people treated slaves, we came to get this history of a southern plantation and get a tour of the house and grounds,” the review started.
The anonymous woman’s review was brought to light by former congressional candidate Saira Rao, who took a screenshot of it and posted the review on Twitter saying “This is how decent white people who tell the truth about slavery on plantations are reviewed by white people.”
Obviously, the woman seemed to neglect the fact that the history of most Southern plantations is slavery.
The woman’s review continued, “The tour guide was so radical about slave treatment we felt we were being lectured and bashed about the slavery. My ancestors were from Sicily, never owned slaves, and my (husband’s) were German, and none of his ever owned slaves. I am by far not a racist or against all Americans having equal rights but this way my vacation and now we are crossing all plantation tours off our list, it was just not what we expected. I’ll go back to Louisiana and see some real plantations that are so much more enjoyable to tour.”
Twitter users quickly got the woman together, pointing out the ridiculousness of her sentiments.
One user tweeted: “‘We didn’t want a lecture on how white people treated slaves, we wanted history on the southern plantation.’ That IS the history. It’s a PLANTATION, Karen.”
