Saweetie Shares Her Views On Nepotism

As previously reported by The Shade Room, Bronny was the 55th draft pick to the L.A. Lakers, which sparked a debate about the appropriateness of “nepotism.” Some Roomies said they “don’t like it,” while others “didn’t see an issue.”

The rapper wrote, “I hate the “nepo baby” narrative.” She explained the criticism doesn’t consider the sacrifice of the parent being away from home to work.  In addition to the time kids miss out on with their parents. “It spits in the face of the child who grew up barely spending time with her parents because they was too busy hustlin’ trying to make ends meet,” she said.

Furthermore, the entertainer expressed the sacrifices that she made to become successful in the music industry.

“…I think saweetie the college girl would have had her “wealthy family” pay for tuition and boarding so that she could enjoy the social experience of college instead of working 4 jobs to support herself,” she wrote.

Additionally, the ‘Richtivities’ rapper shared that she put herself in dangerous situations to make it on her own without her family’s assistance. She said, “Saying I’m privileged ignores the girl who risked her safety renting rooms off of Craigslist because she believed in herself enough to stay in an expensive city while everyone else was telling her to move home because that’s the safe and better “financial option.”

Saweetie expressed that she made a way to inch towards her dream, even when she was moneyless. “Can’t pay for studio time? No problem. I made car rap videos which is how I got discovered. I’m proud of all the hard work I’ve done/accomplished and will continue to share my story to inspire those who come after me,” she said.
