Salehe Bembury, The VP Of Sneakers & Men’s Footwear At Versace, Says He Was Racially Profiled By Police Officers While Holding A Versace Shopping Bag In Beverly Hills

As this year continues to go by, there are still unfortunately some unsettling moments that are occurring when it comes to race.

On Thursday, Salehe Bembury, the Vice President of Sneakers & Men’s Footwear for the high-end fashion brand, Versace, took to social media to detail an incident he claims was racial profiling by police officers in Beverly Hills.

He first shared a brief video where he is standing near two officers and saying, “I’m in Beverly Hills right now, I’m getting f*cking searched for shopping at the store I work for and just being black.”

One of the officers then told him he was good to go after they checked his ID.

Once inside his car, Salehe talked about the encounter in more detail and said that after leaving the Versace store he was headed back to his car when a cop car pulled up on him and claimed that he was jaywalking. He then said that officers patted him down.

Donatella Versace also responded to the incident and said, “I am appalled this happened to Salehe Bembury today. He has been a consultant at Versace for a long time and the behavior he experienced is totally unacceptable. He was stopped on the street solely for the color of his skin. Stay strong Salehe Bembury. Sending you love and support.”
