Hasbro announced that it would be making a major change to the Mr. Potato Head brand by making the infamous toy gender neutral. Like many changes to our childhood memories, the announcement brought many different opinions, and Safaree took to Twitter with some thoughts of his own.
Hasbro will be dropping the “mister” from Mr. Potato Head’s name, and Safaree questioned the idea in a tweet.
“Mr. Potato head is reaching. You’re a potato n*gga what the hell you mean you’re gender neutral. Who the hell be coming up with these ideas 30 years later,” he said.
He even responded to a fan, who pointed out that the toy is actually not a potato at all, but a plastic figure.
“That makes it even dumber,” Safaree said, followed by laughing emoji’s. “They really had a meeting on a plastic potato.”
As we previously reported, an employee for the toy maker revealed that the company’s goal is to move toward being more inclusive by allowing consumers, presumably children, to determine gender on their own.
“Culture has evolved,” Kimberly Boy said. “Kids want to be able to represent their own experiences. The way the brand currently exists–with the ‘Mr.’ and ‘Mrs.’–is limiting when it comes to both gender identity and family structure.”
