There have been reports of people’s “Ring” security cameras being hacked. Now action is being taken after the company is being accused of failing to secure their products from hacking.
According to TMZ, Ring and its parent company, Amazon is facing a class-action lawsuit, and the named plaintiff, John Baker Orange, claims that last July someone hacked his camera outside of his home. He says a hacker started commenting on his children who were playing basketball at the time. The person that hacked the camera started to encourage the children to move closer to the camera.
The lawsuit alleges that there were at least six other hacks that occurred across the country. The suit also claims that both Ring and Amazon have not taken any responsibility and have blamed the owners of the cameras instead.
Earlier this month, we reported about a family’s ring security camera being hacked, as a man told their 8-year-old daughter that he was Santa Claus.
According to Business Insider, John Yanchunis, the attorney bringing the lawsuit, said, “A company that provides security devices for one’s home needs to have a heightened focus on ensuring those devices are actually secure. All indication is that the security is lax on these machines.”
Roommates, what are your thoughts?
