Earlier this month, Sanya Richards-Ross announced that she was expecting her second child, and further details about the Real Housewives of Atlanta cast member’s pregnancy journey are coming to light.
Specifically, the four-time Olympic gold medalist says a “traumatic” miscarriage preceded her current pregnancy, making her unborn child a “rainbow baby.”
She Says The Miscarriage “Put Everything Into Perspective”
Sanya opened up about the experience during a sit-down with PEOPLE.
While fans see Sanya reveal she’s expecting during the mid-season trailer, she ultimately lost that pregnancy nearly two months later.
“It was very traumatic. I was in New York and had a really bad miscarriage. I had to go to the hospital. I had to have a blood transfusion. It was very, very, very scary.”
In the wake of the tragedy, she says she realized the experience “put everything in perspective.”
“I didn’t realize until then how much I really wanted to become a mom again and how much of a blessing it is to be a mom. And I was like, ‘You know what? It’s family first, and all the other things that I love — which is work and all that stuff, it’s second.”
About a month after the miscarriage, Sanya became pregnant again, sharing, “I didn’t think it’d happen so quick again.”
Humorously, she added that her husband, ex-NFL star Aaron Ross, “prides himself” on how quickly they made it happen.
“My husband, he prides himself. He’s like, ‘I never miss. Whenever you’re ready, I’m ready,'”
Sanya Richards-Ross is due on Dec. 25, 2023.

Expanding Her Family Was Part Of Sanya Richards-Ross’ Storyline Last Season
RHOA viewers will know the subject of Sanya and Ross expanding their family has come up since joining the show last season.
As soon as the couple hit the Bravo scene, Ross made it clear that he wanted to expand their family. However, the reality star had some reservations and cited feeling unsupported when they welcomed their first child, Aaron “Deuce” Ross II.
We should also add that Drew Sidora faced backlash for telling Sanya that it was her “duty” to have another child with her husband, and she doubled down on this stance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.
“If you don’t have the baby, guess what? Somebody else will. If that’s what your husband wants, then he deserves that. And if you love him, that’s your responsibility to make him happy.”
By the season 14 reunion, Sanya announced that she came around to the idea, and the rest is history!
We wish Sanya Richards-Ross a happy and healthy pregnancy.
