Social media is reacting to resurfaced footage that shows Senator J.D. Vance advocating for people with children to be given more voting power than those without.
On Thursday, July 25, footage of Senator Vance speaking at the Intercollegiate Studies Institute in Wilmington, Delaware, in 2021 surfaced. The footage initially went viral on X, formerly known as Twitter, after being posted by user @patrynard.
In the clip, Vance explained that when parents “go to the polls,” they “should have more power” than “people who don’t have kids.”
“If you don’t have as much as an investment in the future of this country, maybe you shouldn’t get nearly the same voice,” Vance explained.
Vance explained that parents should and would ultimately get a “bigger say” in how the country’s democracy functions.
Social media users reacted to Vance’s comments in The Shade Room’s comment section.
As The Shade Room previously reported, Senator Vance was announced as Trump’s running mate in the 2024 presidential election on July 15. Since then, more information has been revealed about the Republican Senator, who is 39 years old and was raised in Ohio.
Vance reportedly attended Ohio State University and Yale Law School ahead of his time serving in the Senate. Since he’s made headlines, information has surfaced about additional ideologies he appeared to carry before his partnership with Trump. As The Shade Room previously reported, Vance reportedly referred to Trump as an “idiot” and “cynical a**hole” in 2016.
