Last night was a big night for Regina King as she walked away with a Golden Globe for Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for the new Barry Jenkins film “If Beale Street Could Talk.”
During her acceptance speech, Regina used her platform to make a vow and she encouraged others to follow as well.
According to Variety, she said, “The reason why we do this is because we understand that our microphones are big and we are speaking for everyone. And I just want to say that I’m going to use my platform right now to say in the next two years, everything that I produce, I’m making a vow, and it’s going to be tough, to make sure that everything that I produce that is 50% women.”
While making her speech the ceremonial music started to play, but then cut off as she continued. “And I just challenge anyone out there — anyone out there who is in a position of power, not just in our industry, in all industries. I challenge you to challenge yourselves and stand with us in solidarity and do the same, said Regina.”
Regina King was nominated for two awards at Sunday’s show, and her win for Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture, marked her first ever Golden Globe win.
