Angel Reese’s first WNBA season is proving to be a record-breaking one as she claims her seventh straight double-double.
ESPN reports the 22-year-old has become the first rookie to reach the achievement.
The Chi Barbie secured 16 points and 18 rebounds, passing Cindy Brown and Tina Charles for the most consecutive games with double-doubles by a rook. Retired WNBA player Candace Parker holds the overall record for the most consecutive doube-doubles in the WNBA at 12. She earned her record during the 2009-10 season. Parker played for the Sky for two seasons as her career came to a close.
The forward told the outlet, “It’s super exciting for myself.” She added that she attempts “…to give [herself] some grace and tell [herself she’s] doing a good job.” However, she said, “I have so much more to grow, and I’m just excited to be in this league.”
Reese took the record and the win during the Chicago Sky versus Dallas Wings game on June 20. The Windy City team won 83-72. Angel is averaging 10.8 rebounds per game and is the second-leading rebounder behind A’ja Wilson.
The former LSU player said, “…I just want to do whatever it takes to win, and rebounding is what I do to win.”
Roommates under The Shade Room’s report shared their feelings about the rookie’s first record.
Congrats, Angel!
