Last night at the 2015 Grammy Awards Kanye West joking stepped on stage and pretended to interrupt musician Beck’s award speech after he won Album Of The Year.
We all thought it was a joke until after the Grammys when he revealed he was dead serious. He really felt that Beyonce’s album should have gotten the award and that Beck should hand it over to her.
Here’s what he said in full:
“I don’t know what he said, all I know is if the Grammys want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We ain’t gonna play with them no more. Flawless, Beyoncé video. Beck needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyoncé, and at this point, we tired of it.
Because what happens is, when you keep on diminishing art and not respecting the craft and smacking people in the face after they deliver monumental feats of music, you’re disrespectful to inspiration and we, as musicians, have to inspire people who go to work every day and they listen to that Beyoncé album and they feel like it takes them to another place.
Then they do this whole promotional event, they’ll run the music over somebody’s speech, the artist, because they want commercial advertising. Like, no, we not playing with them no more. By the way, I got my wife, my daughter and my clothing line, so I’m not going to do nothing to put my daughter at risk but I am here to fight for creativity. That’s the reason why I didn’t say anything tonight. But you all know what it meant when ‘Ye walks on the stage.”
Listen, we are the head of the Beygency, The President of the Beyhive. However, that doesn’t mean she has to win everything. Beyonce has 21 Grammys and y’all are still fighting for her to get Grammy number 22.
Can another musician be blessed? My problem with Kanye West is that I’m sure he has never even heard a Beck track before and his opinion is based on the music that he knows.
For all he knows the white folks could be jamming to Beck on the regular! By the way, Black Artists did win last night! Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, Toni Braxton, Baby Face, Beyonce, Jay-Z , and so on….

I believe the issue isnt Beck talent. It was Albim of the Year. Beyonce album set records being released with no promo, shut down the internet. When Beck didn’t sell 300,000 copies and wasn’t at the top Billboard 100. That is not album of the year. Maybe white people like it but they didn’t buy it.
What EVERYONE is leaving out is that Beck is so cool that he is still performing in the 31st century (well, his head is), along with a certain, bending robot. BEAT THAT.
