Roommates, it looks like tensions are rising between Quavo and Chris Brown! Both artists hopped in the studio to seemingly take shots at each other in songs released this week.
Chris Brown kicked off the alleged wordplay on Wednesday with the release of ‘Freak’ on his deluxe ’11:11′ album. Less than 48 hours later, Quavo has seemingly returned the alleged shade.
In the chorus of ‘Tender’ Quavo raps:
“You did the b***h wrong and now the b***h gone, she posted with a thug (Yeah, with a thug) / Call the b***h phone, she won’t come home, don’t beat her up (Don’t beat her up) / It must be the drugs (It must be the drugs), need to cross out your plug yeah-yeah.”
Folks on social media seem to think Quavo is shading Chris Brown’s past with domestic violence and rumors of drug use. Most notable is the 2009 car assault of his then-girlfriend Rihanna following a dispute between them.
Listen to Quavo’s chorus below.
As mentioned, it seems like Chris Brown ignited the lil’ rap exchange with ‘Freak.’ After its release, fans believed the singer-rapper referenced Quavo and his former group Migos.
To be clear, Chris didn’t explicitly name-drop Quavo, but fans debated whether the use of “Cuervo” in verse two was a double-entendre for the Atlanta rapper’s stage name.
“Okay, now f**kin’ my old b***h ain’t gon’ make us equal / Sippin’ that 1942 ’cause I don’t do no Cuervo / Freak b***h, she like the Casamigos, not the Migos / I don’t f**k with bougie b****es, man, that sh*t is all hype,” Brown rapped on ‘Freak.’
Meanwhile, with both releases, social media has been gassed with theories about what prompted their back-and-forth. Chris Brown’s ex-girlfriend, Karrueche Tran, has been name-dropped in the trending talks.
As we last told y’all, Karrueche and Quavo were spotted together several times between 2017 and 2022, and the sightings inspired baewatch talks. In March 2022, she told The Shade Room they were not dating. A few months later, footage surfaced of her and Quavo in a similar area in Jamaica at the same time.
For now, neither of the artists has directly called each other other.
