Yesterday, viral footage showed an unarmed black man being shot in the back by police in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Now some updates have been made available following the horrible incident.
Wisconsin Governor, Tony Evers, spoke out about the incident, in which he identified the victim as Jacob Blake. He said, “Tonight, Jacob Blake was shot in the back multiple times, in broad daylight, in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Kathy and I join his family, friends, and neighbors in hoping earnestly that he will not succumb to his injuries. While we do not have all of the details yet, what we know for certain is that he is not the first Black man or person to have been shot or injured or mercilessly killed at the hands of individuals in law enforcement in our state or our country.”
He continued to speak against the officers’ excessive force and added, “We stand against excessive use of force and immediate escalation when engaging with Black Wisconsinites.”
Attorney Ben Crump will be representing Jacob and his family and he released a statement where he confirmed that Jacob is still alive. He said, “Their irresponsible responsible, reckless, and inhumane actions nearly cost the life of a man who was simply trying to do the right thing by intervening in a domestic incident. It’s a miracle he’s still alive.”
Following the shooting, many residents took to the streets to protest against the shooting as they demanded that Jacob Blake gets the justice that he deserves.
As we previously reported, the video of the shooting was shared on Facebook, and it was reported that he was trying to help break up a fight, and when he made his way back to his vehicle, that is when officers grabbed him by his shirt and shot him at least 7 times.
Wisconsin Police Department then released a statement where they announced that Jacob was in serious condition.
