Prince’s Protege Shares Details On His Emergency Plane Landing

It’s been two months since the passing of legendary singer Prince. Earlier this month his death was ruled an accidental overdose of fentanyl, which he had been using for chronic pain.

Six days prior to his death, his plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Moline, Ill as he was suffering from a sickness. Judith Hill, Prince’s protégé, sat down with The New York Times to talk about what happened during that emergency landing.

She talked about being the one to alert the pilot for the emergency landing, “We knew it was only a matter of time; we had to get down. We didn’t have anything on the plane to help him.”

She revealed that was her first time seeing the “I Wanna Be Your Lover” singer like that. Eighteen minutes after the landing he was transported to the nearest hospital, and awake by the time of their arrival. She revealed that Prince was ready to leave the hospital, but friends encouraged him to stay. So he did, until the following morning.

Hill said the plane incident worried her and she encouraged Prince to receive some help. He met with a California addiction specialist, but avoided the seriousness of the incident.

“He did it because he was concerned, and he wanted to do the right thing for his own body, that’s the part that breaks my heart, because he was trying. He was trying.”

Unfortunately, Prince passed away six days following the plane incident on April 21st.

Hill did not confirm if she shared a romantic relationship with Prince, but she did say, “There was a very intense relationship. I deeply cared for him. He told me that he loved me and that he would always be there for me.”
