Pretty Vee isn’t letting the negative comments about her honorary doctorate degree weigh her down. However, she DID address the backlash by leaning into her faith and encouraging others to remain steadfast in theirs.
Vee first shared news of her honorary doctorate degree on her Instagram page this past weekend. Global International Alliance awarded her a degree in Humanitarianism for her “philanthropy efforts,” according to her post.
In her caption, she added, “The Bible says the blessings of the Lord maketh rich and addeth no sorrows, Today I honor God for every blessing he’s bestowed upon my life. I pray he continues to guide me and lead me to walk in obedience so I will eat the good of the land. I thank him today for the fruits of the spirit showing up right in front of my very eyes.”
Well, those are the same sentiments she leaned into while clapping back at folks who talked down on her accomplishment. Speaking on Instagram Live, she said that her cap and gown pictures have people “mad.”
“The last pic got a lot of y’all mad, but let me tell you something. God will choose the foolish things to shame the wise. So when God qualifies you, he qualifies you. He qualifies you for higher…it’s acceleration season. It’s your excel season. So don’t let nobody tell you that you can’t do and you can’t be a part of anything.”
Additionally, Pretty Vee said she’s not going into details about her degree posts and suggested those who are mad “deal with it.”
“Just because someone does skits and music and this and that, don’t you know God can use those people to make something outta them,” Vee said. “People don’t understand that God can change your life in about a second nowadays, and he been doing it for a long time. So, at the end of the day, I don’t have to prove anything to anybody.”
Keeping in tune with her comedic side, Pretty Vee suggested people “put some respect on [her] name” and call her “Dr. Excel.”

As mentioned, people are continuing to comment on Pretty Vee’s response in The Shade Room’s comment section. She also hopped in, writing, “Again….God just keep adding to the resume JESUS.” While fellow comedians such as @blameitonkway wished her “congrats,” other commentators weren’t as celebratory.
@breland wrote, “Ma’am, respectfully, people go to school to WORK toward a doctorate. An honorary doctorate is dope in its own way, but let’s not conflate it with an actual earned degree.”
@mekasway added, “Girl bye…Signed a REAL DOCTOR!!!!”
“Honorary degrees are literally the equivalent of a participation trophy,” @juju_thee_enchantress wrote.
@the_lighther said, “Baby, what are we respecting?? I can show you these involuntarily student loans … Vee you cool and all but no one is calling you Doctor or putting respect on your name.. when we put in real work to get real degrees!! Working and going to school to get our degrees! Nawl you put some respect on our names! Because if it was easy everyone would do it voluntarily not honorary.”
Meanwhile, quite a few other commentators, such as @lifeas_pmp, blamed the universities for handing out the degrees.
Amid all the folks unimpressed, there’s one from Pretty Vee’s past who made it clear he’s here for it. Her rumored ex-boyfriend Rick Ross recently weighed in on her honorary doctorate, causing a lil’ frenzy on socials with his response!
