President Joe Biden recently responded to Donald Trump‘s criticisms after completing a prisoner swap with Russia. During a recent press conference, Biden addressed the matter with a slick 9-word question.
Two dozen people were released on Thursday (August 1), including journalist Evan Gershkovich and former U.S. marine Paul Whelan. This multinational deal also freed Vladimir Kara-Murza, who wrote Pulitzer prize-winning articles from his jail cell for The Washington Post.
Donald Trump didn’t seem too impressed after Joe Biden completed the largest prisoner swap in post-Soviet history, per AP.
Former president Trump took to Truth Social to inquire about the specifics of the negotiation with Vladimir Putin. He asked, “So when are they gonna release the details of the prison swap with Russia?” before adding, “How many do we get versus them? Are we also paying them in cash?”
Trump said that he was pretty sure Russia didn’t pay the U.S. any money for their hostages. Additionally, he inquired if the U.S. was releasing “murderers, killers, and thugs” back to Russia.
Donnie also didn’t hold his tongue about the officials brokering deals with Vladimir. He criticized American negotiators, stating they “are always an embarrassment.” The 78-year-old claimed that he “got back so many hostages and gave the opposing country NOTHING,” especially cash.
Furthermore, he stated that “they are extorting” America and labeling “the trade complex” so “nobody can figure out how bad it is.”
Shortly after, at a press conference, a reporter asked Joe Biden what he had to say about Trump’s specific claim that he could have gotten the American prisoners released from Russia without giving anything in turn.
He smiled and said, “Why didn’t he do it when he was president?” Biden then gave the reporters a thumbs-up and made his exit.
