While Americans are still processing the devastating tragedy that occurred in Uvalde, Texas that claimed the lives of 21 people, many are calling on government to take action on gun control, especially President Joe Biden. Taking to social media, President Biden posted his thoughts on the action that Congress must take on gun control in order to permanently put an end to the increasing cases of gun violence.
President Biden, who is set to visit Uvalde, Texas later this week along with First Lady Jill Biden, posted to his Twitter account that Congress needs to pass legislation quickly regarding gun control:
“Congress needs to pass universal background checks, ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, and confirm Steve Dettelbach as head of the ATF. It’s time to turn this pain into action.”
As we previously reported, following the Uvalde shooting, Biden quickly addressed the nation with a firm stance on the importance of gun control. “When, in God’s name, are we going to stand up to the gun lobby? When, in God’s name, will we do what we all know in our gut needs to be done?” he said.
He also added, “How many scores of little children … witnessed what happened — see their friends die, as if they’re on a battlefield, for God’s sake? Why are we willing to live with this carnage? Where in God’s name is our backbone?”
Currently, there has been no immediate legislation change regarding gun policy, but the calls for action don’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon.
