In a world where inclusion is definitely a must, it looks as though the Unicode Consortium understood the assignment and got it right by including a pregnant man emoji.
Ahead of World Emoji Day on July 17th, Unicode Consortium, designed by Emojipedia, released several emojis including a “pregnant man.”
According to Newsweek, “A draft list of new emojis released by the Unicode Consortium, designed by Emojipedia, also shows gender-neutral options such as a “pregnant person” and “person in crown” among its shortlist.”
Approval of the final emojis won’t happen until September as part of Emoji 14.0. Once approved, the list will go live in late 2021 and the first portion of 2022.
Other emojis to be rolled out include, “A face holding back tears, a melting face, some coral, an empty nest and a nest with eggs, a mirror ball, low battery, an x-ray, a heavy equals sign, a multicultural handshake, and a saluting face.”
A couple of people on Twitter stated, “They’ve created this new emoji to indicate a “pregnant man,” but I’m just gonna use it whenever I eat too much.”
Someone else stated, “#pregnant saw so much arguing on there and just came to say, Trans men can get pregnant, AND trans men are just as much as a man than those who are born in the right body. Stop being morons, please. [heart emoji].”
Roomies, what do y’all think of the new emojis?
