NFL player Khyree Jackson passed away in a car accident at the youthful age of 24.
The Hill reports that the rookie cornerback died along with two others on July 6 in Maryland.
Maryland State Police reports the overnight crash involved three vehicles in Prince George’s County. Jackson died at the scene of the accident. He was riding in the same car with Anthony Lytton Jr., 24, and Isaiah Hazel, 23, at the time of the tragic wreck. Isaiah was reportedly driving. Khyree and Anthony were passengers. Hazel and Lytton also passed away from the injuries they sustained. Furthermore, no one was hurt in the other cars involved.
Investigators stated the driver heading north attempted to switch lanes “at a high rate of speed” and hit Hazel’s car and another vehicle. Officials suspect alcohol may have been the cause of the crash, and charges are pending. The accident is under “investigation” by the “State’s Attorney’s Office.”
Lytton played football at Penn and Florida State. Additionally, Hazel ran yards at Charlotte and Maryland. The three men attended Dr. Henry Wise Jr. High School in Maryland where they won three state championships together.
In the 2024 NFL draft, the Vikings drafted Jackson in the fourth round. Furthermore, he reportedly was in the running for the starting cornerback position at the training camp, which was set to begin later this month in Eagan, Minnesota.
“I’m at a loss for words,” the Vikings head coach, Kevin O’Connell shared. “My heart goes out to Khyree’s family, friends, teammates, and coaches.”
