Roommates, let’s keep the city of Chicago in our prayers.
Police responded to an active shooting at Chicago’s Mercy Hospital on Monday. Police say that shots were fired both inside and outside of the hospital around 3pm and 3:30pm.
According to ABC 7 Chicago, at least four people were shot and two have been reported deceased, including the suspected shooter. Among those injured is a Chicago police officer that was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital for treatment.
James Gray, a witness to the shooting talked with ABC 7 Chicago and said he saw a man and a woman who looked like they were walking towards the parking lot.
He said, “The gentleman turned around and shot three times in the chest. Once she fell to the ground, he turned around and shot her three more times.”
Gray continued, “They were walking and talking and he just turned around and started shooting. It wasn’t a heated exchange. It was just like we’re talking now.”
Another witness that was across the street at the time of the shooting said they heard six or seven gunshots, but initially thought they were sounds from a nearby construction site. Shortly after, he saw multiple police arrive at the hospital and people running out of the hospital.
According to CNN, a Chicago police source revealed the suspect has been identified as a 32-year-old male. The injured officer has been listed in critical condition and is receiving “excellent care.”
We send our prayers to those involved in the shooting, and we’ll continue to keep you updated.
