Zanu Simpson had dreams of owning his own business after moving from Jamaica to NYC with his brother. He opened up a popular barbershop called Queens’ Strickly Skillz Barbershop, which was visited by well-known athletes and stars including Kevin Durant, Mobb Deep and Future. However, Zanu’s dream has now been cut short. He was shot in the head in his BMW after leaving a local bar early Tuesday morning.
According to the NY Daily News, police are now investigating the case as a robbery gone wrong. A motorist who called 911 said she saw the suspect reaching into Zanu’s white BMW, punching him. Soon after, the motorist claims she heard three gunshots. When she turned back around, she found Zanu slumped in his seat with bullet wounds. The suspect reportedly shot Zanu in the head three times.
Zanu was rushed to a local hospital but did not survive. Ironically, Zanu’s death comes just 12 hours after he posted these lyrics in a Instagram caption: “N—— taking shots can’t stop me,” he wrote, including emojis of a gun and two bombs. “They ain’t real enough.”
Zanu’s brother issued a statement on the barbershop’s Facebook page saying, “I’m glad I always told that you were the other half of me when they saw me they ask where your brother at. Now I don’t know what to tell them all them memories I will never forget them. Sleep in please my brother love you to death bro.”
