Now that the hype surrounding Popeyes’ chicken sandwich has died down, the chicken franchise is up to something new! Popeyes is gearing up to release a brand new sandwich next week and there’s no chicken in sight.
According to CNN, Popeyes will be rolling out its new Cajun Flounder sandwich this week, which features a flaky piece of fried flounder on a brioche bun and pickles. It’s quite similar to their chicken sandwich, but will be a bit pricier, at $4.49 per sandwich.
“After seeing the response to our Chicken Sandwich in 2019, we are excited to deliver yet another delicious sandwich to our fans that is sure to reset industry standard,” said Sami Siddiqui, President of Americas At Popeyes. “With the chicken sandwich, we raised the bar for what a best-in-class, high-quality sandwich should taste like. We wanted to do the same with fish.”
Now, we know y’all are going to be looking for reviews on the sandwich, Roomies, but don’t fret! You can go out and try the sandwich on your own because Popeyes is offering “sandwich insurance” on Feb. 11th, the day it launches. For an additional 15 cents, people who purchase the fish sandwich and don’t like it can switch it out for a chicken sandwich instead.
Popeyes reportedly tested out the sandwich in Chicago around this time last year, and Siddiqui says the chain might consider making it a permanent item on the menu if it turns out to be as successful as the chicken sandwich.
