TSR Foodies: If you’re a true foodie, then you know there’s no way you can visit New Orleans without getting some beignets (real ones know Cafe du Monde is where it’s at).
But now, you won’t even have to travel to the state of Louisiana, or leave your home state for that matter, to get your hands on the tasty fried pastry.
#Popeyes has just added chocolate beignets to its menu nationwide, according to CNN Business. The fried chicken chain says its new “New Orleans-style” pastries, which are stuffed with melted Hershey’s chocolate and doused in powdered sugar, will be available while supplies last! So y’all might wanna “Louisiana fast” y’all butts down there if you want to try it.
Popeyes says the desserts received strong reviews from people in Boston and Baltimore, where they market tested back in October.
This week, Popeyes is making its beignets available to its restaurants nationwide. Customers can purchase three, six, or 12 beignets for $1.99, $3.99 and $7.49, respectively.
Eating beignets can be a deliciously “messy” experience, according to Popeyes, so in addition to the new menu item, the company is also selling $35 “Beignet Camo” black hoodies decorated with white splotches that look like splashes of powdered sugar so you can basically get your grub on in peace.
Popeyes posted a 30-second ad promoting its chocolate beignets on YouTube last week.
And overall, it seems things are looking up for Popeyes as the chicken chain’s sales figures have been a bright spot this year for parent company Restaurant Brands International (QSR), whose portfolio of fast food chains has struggled due to Covid-19-related closures, according to RBI’s latest earnings report.
RBI also happens to be the parent company for Taco Bell, Burger King and Tim Hortons. The latter two chains reported third-quarter sales declines in October, largely due to the pandemic, RBI’s latest earning report showed.
Those declines were partially offset by an increase in system-wide sales at Popeyes, which has been riding high since the August 2019 launch of its chicken sandwich (you know, the one that everyone was going crazy for).
So let’s see if these beignets keep that momentum going, and let us know if you tried it!
