Early this morning there were reports surfacing from Indonesia that one of their domestic flights had gone missing, but now,Indonesia’s Air Transport Ministry Director General, Suprasetyo, is reporting that the plane has been located.
He said that the remains of the plane were found in the Oktabe district of Papua province and that villagers reported watching it crash into mountains nearby.
CNN reported that the flight lost contact with air control in Papua on Sunday after noon and that, “The flight left Sentani Airport in Jayapura at 2:22 p.m. and was scheduled to land in Oksibil at about 3:16 p.m.,” according to officials.
Transportation Ministry spokesman J.A. Barata told CNN Indonesia that, “There was no indication that a distress call was made from the plane. Officials received reports Sunday afternoon that villagers had seen the plane go down.” Search and rescue have suspended their search now since it’s getting dark and will resume tomorrow. Roommates, keep the 54 people’s families in your prayers!
