A pet monkey was killed after attacking a woman in Oklahoma, and the victim is detailing the injuries that she suffered at the hands of this animal.
According to a social media statement made by the Dickson Police Department, the incident unfolded earlier this week, and it began when police got a call about a monkey being spotted on someone’s front porch.
Authorities note that, after they arrived on the scene, the animal “jumped on the rear of his patrol vehicle.” Then, authorities note that the monkey “ran towards the victim and climbed onto her head” before proceeding to injure her.
The victim was then transferred to a hospital to receive treatment, and the primate evaded capture by scurrying off into the woods
We should also note that the officers located the animal’s owners nearby, though they were ultimately unable to capture it. However, a family friend of the victim later arrived on the scene and fatally shot the monkey.
In addition to the police statement, KTEN provided further information via a sit-down with the victim, identified as Brittany Parker.
Parker recounted the experience, noting that the animal “ran up [her] back.” She also added, “[The monkey] ripped my ear in half like you would a piece of paper.”
“He ran up my back and jumped onto my head, pulled hair out, and then ripped my ear in half like you would a piece of paper.”
She also shared that the family friend who ultimately killed the monkey was also attacked, as the animal “slapped him across the face.”
“We called him and he came over here, and after I had been attacked, the monkey went out to his vehicle, slapped him across the face, and pulled his hair.”
The outlet also points out that, as monkeys are “considered domesticated animals under Oklahoma law,” the owner didn’t need a permit to own the primate.
What do you think about the overall situation, and would you ever keep a primate as a pet? Additionally, how would you feel if one was being kept as a pet nearby?
