Patrisse Cullors Gives An Update On Jussie Smollett—Says He’s Getting An Actual Bed After Sleeping On A Restraint Bed

It has been less than a week since Jussie Smollett has been sentenced to serve time behind bars after a jury found him guilty of staging a fake hate crime. However, his team is working to update his supporters on his condition, while trying to get him released.

During the a recent update, Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors spoke about about Jussie’s condition after visiting while in Chicago. In a video posted to Jussie’s Instagram account, Patrisse said, “He’s strong, but what’s happening inside is just unacceptable. Today is the first day he’s going to be able to get an actual bed. He’s been sleeping on a restraint bed.”

She continued to say, “They’ve also filed for him to be released, filed to the appelet court. Hopefully we’ll learn by this week, no later than Wednesday if he’ll get out.”

Patrisse encouraged supporters to use the hashtag #FreeJussie on social media and also motivated people to call the jail to check up on him, and also share why they think he should be free.

As previously reported, a message from Jussie’s brother was also placed on his Instagram account where he revealed that Jussie was placed in the psych ward at Cook County Jail. He reiterated that Jussie is not a harm to himself, something that Jussie made sure to verbally say himself after he was sentenced in court.

Jussie also recieved support from Taraji P. Henson, who played his mother, Cookie Lyon, on the Fox hit series “Empire.”
