Last Sunday the tragic news broke that, Trinity Gay, the 15-year old daughter of Olympic Sprinter Tyson Gay, was fatally shot in Lexington, KY.
She suffered a gunshot wound to the neck as she was shot in the parking lot of a Cook Out restaurant.
According to WKYT, on Saturday hundreds of people gathered for Trinity’s funeral service, where they honored her life and celebrated the many contributions she has made to the lives of others.
Her father Tyson Gay said to WKYT, “You’ll never be able to stop all the crime, but I really believe this city is too beautiful to have crime like this.”
Earlier in the week he posted a message to his Facebook page where he talked about the effects of his daughters death, and how it has encouraged him to mentor the youth.
“We must come together as a community to protect each other, giving our young people the tools they need to resolve their conflicts and lead successful lives – the kind that Trinity was well on her way to living,” said Gay.
He continued, “In the coming weeks we will be exploring ways to help mentor and support the youth of Lexington over the long term, so that the spirit of Trinity will sprint on long after we say goodbye to her this weekend.”
Police are still investigating the shooting, but four men have been charged with the murder of Trinity Gay.
We continue to send our condolences to the Gay family during this difficult time.
