YouTube star James Donaldson, aka Mr. Beast, recently built 100 homes for families in Jamaica, El Salvador, Colombia, and Argentina.
Yahoo! News reports that the content creator, known for his philanthropic efforts, changed the lives of impoverished families by providing not only shelter but also water and electricity.
In the video posted to the digital creator’s YouTube channel, he highlighted the first family he gave a home to in Jamaica. He stated, “Each home is going to change a family’s life. Like this family who didn’t have a house to call their own.” After James told the family to remove their blindfolds and turn around to look at their “brand new home,” the family’s matriarch screamed. The family then walked around, exploring their new the home. “There’s a bedroom,” the little boy excitedly yelled. The dad shared, “I always wanted him to have a bunk bed. And my dream came true.”
Mr. Beast stated, “I’m glad they’re happy.” He added, “We’re improving the quality of life for families that don’t have a safe space to call home.”
He also noted that they “spent millions of dollars…”building [the] houses.”
Additionally, Donaldson shared the story of a family living in unsafe conditions atop a mountain. It was so unstable that it could collapse at any moment. A man built the home for his family with boards and materials that he carried on his head up the steep incline. Mr. Beast “sent the family on a mini vacation,” and when they returned they saw their new, fully furnished home. “It’s been really hard, and you guys changed my life,” the man tearfully told Mr. Beast.
Furthermore, a Jamaican woman and her children received a brand new house after her original home’s roof flooded when it rained. Her children would get soaked and couldn’t sleep when this occurred. Now, they had a dry and warm space to call home. Moreover, he traveled to El Salvador and built a community of homes for families whose residences were destroyed each year by flash flooding.
