Reese Responds To WNBA Wage Criticism
Social media thought Reese’s salary seemed low after her contract details were released in April. As previously reported by The Shade Room, the Bayou Barbie, who was drafted by the Chicago Sky, is set to earn $73,439 in her first season. By 2025, she will earn over $74,000 annually. The following year, Angel will pocket $82,000 — by 2027, her earnings will reach $93,000. The forward’s four-year deal will bring her a total of $324,000.
In contrast to the criticism, Reese stated that her endorsements have increased since college. Additionally, she is pleased with the compensation she will receive for playing for a short span of time. Reese explained, “Obviously, people thought me leaving college, I would take a huge pay gap. I wasn’t getting paid in college, so that check that I do get here is a bonus.”
“Being able to play for, what, four or five months and get $75,000 on top of the other endorsement that I’m doing” is “a plus” for [Reese]. Furthermore, Reese stated that she doesn’t play for financial gain. The baller said she plays because she is passionate about the sport.
“I’m playing a game I love — not for the money. I play because I love basketball,” she said.
