On Wednesday, 36-year-old Karim Azizi was charged with attempted assault, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon.
The Attack
According to NBC New York, the “brazen” bat attack took place on Tuesday, November 29. The incident occurred around 8 a.m. on Amsterdam Avenue and West 148th Street in Harlem.
Footage of the assault shows a pedestrian, dressed in a red, puffy jacket, casually walking down the street. As he moves past the aggressor, now suspected to be Azizi, the 36-year-old pulls a brightly colored baseball bat from his pants. Azizi then quickly approaches the pedestrian from behind and swings the bat into the back of the 47-year-old’s head. The victim then falls to the ground.
The bat-swinger seems to yell something at the victim as they begin walking away. In the footage, it looks as though the victim responds and the bat-swinger aggressively walks toward the victim once more.
The aggressor then motions a few more threatening jabs at the victim then turns and walks out of the camera footage.
