A group of New York City strippers are currently on strike in an attempt to put an end to racist promoters and kleptomaniac bartenders. There’s a full out war right now, y’all!
Apparently, the #NYCStripperStrike started after the strippers became fed up with the bartenders cutting into their market share which is causing them to make less money. When it comes to the black dancers and bartenders, racism effects their pockets–or g-strings–even more.
Times have changed and social media has affected the ways that promoters market their clubs. Women who have hundreds of thousands or even millions of followers on Instagram and Twitter will promote the club and oftentimes end up making more money than the dancers. Customers are paying to get their lives from those who have Instagram fame rather than the entertainment that strippers provide which just plain sucks. These girls have bills too!
Now, I mentioned that race plays a part in how the black women make money. Customers definitely discriminate against darker skinned women to the point where there are hardly any in these clubs! In a throwback Vlad Tv interview, former stripper Cardi B. even explained how “sad” it was that NYC strip clubs don’t even really hire black girls anymore. She said that there is a growing “fetish” for exotic-looking women.
In addition to all of this, the problematic bartenders are actually stealing the money that is being thrown at the strippers! Some have even been caught on camera. Check out the lady on the floor level sweeping cash into the floor:
