Roommates, we have followed the life of the one and only underwater fry cook, Spongebob Squarepants, for more than 20 years, and it looks like Nickeolodeon is ready to give one of his co-stars a shot at his own show!
According to Variety, Nickelodeon confirmed that a Spongebob Squarepants spin-off titled The Patrick Star Show, is in the works, and is set to premiere this summer. The new series will follow the life of a young Patrick star who lives with his family and hosts a TV show from his childhood bedroom.
The show has reportedly been green-lit for 13 episodes, and will introduce Bikini Bottom fans to a whole host of new characters including Patrick’s eight-year-old sister, Squidina, his parents, Bunny and Cecil, and his grandfather, GrandPat.
Patrick is not the first of Spongebob’s associates to get a spin-off over the years. We have seen various movies and specials based on Bikini Bottom adventures, and Brian Robbins, head of Nickelodeon is confident there will be plenty more.
“There is seemingly an endless amount of stores with this franchise,” Robbins said. “You’ll see movies with spinoff characters. I think you’ll see more shows like ‘Patricks,’ and some other characters, and some different live stuff. It’s kind of endless when you think about the cast.”
Another spin-off, Kamp Koral: Spongebob’s Under Years, is set to premiere on CBS’ new streaming service, Paramount Plus, on Thursday. The show follows 10-year-old Spongebob and his friends as they spend one summer at a sleep away camp.
The Patrick Star show will join Paramount Plus after its debut on Nickelodeon.
