According to Kerato, a keratopigmentation procedure places natural pigments of green, blue, and brown into one’s cornea, or the front layer of the eye.
This procedure “masks” or permanently changes one’s eye color.
Very Well Health reports that risks from the procedure include light sensitivity, bacterial eye infection, and color fading.
Social Media Reacts
Social media users entered The Shade Room’s comment section to share their reactions to White’s revelation.
“playing with ya vision just for some eye color is crazy😂”
“my eyes are off limits…”
“Baby, I be shaking putting and taking my contacts out. Ain’t no way.”
“PLEASE READ TO THE END AND DO NOT GET THIS PROCEDURE!
In 2017 I changed my eye color to grey in India and they were BEAUTIFUL. However, by year 2 I became extremely sensitive to sunlight and had to wear glasses everywhere I went because lighter eyes don’t have as much melanin as darker toned eyes. So it’s hard to shield from sunlight. FF to today. I had them reversed by year 3 and had to have a corneal transplant on both eyes. Another lady I met over there and did this developed glaucoma so I consider myself lucky that that’s all I had to get my vision back to 20/20. No known cases of going blind but you can really mess your vision up long term. So please be careful.”
“Isn’t this what tiny and her daughter zonnique did and it didn’t turn out good for them they was having complications . messing with your eyes is CRAZYYYY…”
More Details Regarding Tiny Harris & Her Daughter Zonnique’s Experience With The Eye Surgery
According to MadameNoire, in 2014, Tiny Harris traveled to North Africa to have her eye color changed to ice-gray with BrightOcular implants. When Harris publicly revealed the news, she explained that her dislike of wearing colored contacts prompted the decision.
Additionally, Harris shared that her vision was “perfect” after surgery.
Afterward, Zonnique followed in her mother’s footsteps and changed her natural eye color to Olive Green.
In 2015, she detailed her decision to undergo the procedure and her immediate reaction to the results.
However, in 2018, after Zonnique shared a photo on Instagram, social media users speculated that she reversed her procedure, per MadameNoire.
In 2020, Zonnique opened up more about her procedure, explaining she didn’t like to recommend it to anyone, per The Shade Room.
“I’ve never liked to recommend anyone to do it, I can say that the experience wasn’t the best in the long term but everyone is different,”
she explained. “My eye started bothering me, the doctor told me that you could possibly go blind.”
At the time, Zonnique did note that her mom’s procedure had been “fine,” per Essence.
