Nick Cannon and Alyssa Scott recently got together to celebrate the life of their late son, Zen Scott Cannon. Their firstborn would’ve turned three years old this year.
As previously reported, their child passed away in December 2021 due to a form of brain cancer when he was five months old. He suffered from a malignant invasive midline brain tumor called hydrocephalus. At the time, Nick announced the unfortunate news during his talk show.
This past weekend, the two-time co-parents gathered loved ones in memory of their baby boy. A group photo shows over 20 people holding large blue balloons in an outdoor area.
Alyssa, who wore a white dress for the celebration, shared an image on her Instagram Story of a black-and-white poster. It featured photos of Zen, along with his birthday, June 23, 2024, and the text “Celebrating Zen’s Light.” In the right-hand corner of the photo, she wrote, “Happy Birthday, Zen.”
Nick Cannon also shared images from the gathering on his Instagram feed. Some of the additional photos showed another large poster featuring photos of baby Zen. There were over 15 tall, lit white candles lined up near the poster, which also displayed quotes about light amid darkness.
“Thank you for all the love and support that everyone sent our way today. Truly appreciate everyone who showed up and celebrated our beautiful Angel 👼🏽 ZEN SCOTT CANNON 6/23,” Nick wrote in the caption.
In a separate post, Nick spoke about June 23 being a “tough” one. “Today is the day we celebrate the life of my little guy Zen Scott Cannon, truly an Angel so every 6/23 is a tough one. But the goal is always to try to turn pain into purpose. I love you Zen. Your light will shine forever my Son,” the father of 12 wrote.
Following his son’s passing, Nick got a tattoo honoring him. He placed the body ink on his ribs, saying the pain was “so well worth it.”
“To forever have my son right here as my rib, right here on my side, that’s my angel,” he said at the time.
Nearly a year after their son’s passing, Alyssa Scott announced she and Nick were expecting their second son. A few weeks later, on Dec. 14, 2022, they welcomed their daughter, Halo Marie Cannon.
Nick Cannon has welcomed 12 kids total, and spoke earlier this year about the nuances of managing quality time with his 11 living kids. As for having a 13th child, he’s also said he has no plans to do so yet!
