New York Activists File Complaint To Stop Merchants On Amazon From Selling ‘White Privilege’ Cards

Roommates, many of us go to Amazon to purchase various items due to fast shipping and low prices. However, New York activists are calling out the company for allowing merchants to sell what they call racist paraphernalia. According to News 12 BX, on February 28th, activists at the Crisis Action Center were outraged and demanded the company stop selling “White Privilege Card–Trumps Everything” cards. The cards that resemble a credit card show membership is valid since birth and good thru death.

The cards are sold in variations of five, 10, and 15 packs and are labeled as gag gifts with five-star reviews. Several merchants are selling the card. One of the reviews on Amazon from seller Brand QASW states, “My husband loves whipping this card out EVERYWHERE he goes. And EVERYONE loves it! All kinds of people. Everyone wants to know where to get them. And this always opens up the conversation for the current administration’s attitude/opinion.”

The review continued, “No one believes it. America is a country of mixed people. And every person we engage showing this card says the same along with lots of laughs! It’s amazing for a country that’s supposed to be racist. We haven’t run into one person yet, that is.”

The activists have also filed a complaint with the New York City Commission of Human Rights. Rev. Kevin McCall had a lot to say about the racist cards. “Amazon should not be selling anything like this. They should be selling Black history. They’re saying if you buy this card, you get special privilege. Nobody is special privilege in this country. We’re all equal,” he said. Rev. McCall also stated that they would continue to fight until the cards are no longer being sold.

At this time, Amazon has not responded about the cards.
