On Tuesday the new superhero series “Black Lightning “ premiered on the CW. The show is produced by Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil, who is known for series such as “Girlfriends,” “The Game,” and “Being Mary Jane.”
The series is based on the DC Comic’s character by the same name.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the series is the fifth comic book series to appear on the CW.
The show’s premiere brought in huge numbers for the network with a strong 0.8 rating among adults 18-49 and 2.3 million viewers. Ranking in as the highest-rated premiere in two years.
The cast is led by Cress Williams and also stars China Anne McClain and Nafessa Williams.
According to the show’s synopsis, Cress Williams stars as Jefferson Pierce “who retired from his superhero persona Black Lightning nine years ago after seeing the effects it had on his family.”
Black Lightning is forced out of retirement when a local gang causes disruption to the community and his daughters are kidnapped.
