With the changes that are coming, #Netflix and chill nights may become a little more interesting. Just like them OG #Goosebumps books, the streaming service plans to introduce a choose your own adventure option for shows.
Sources told @Bloomberg the new interactive feature will allow the viewer to influence the outcome of certain storylines, according to @huffpost.
To kick off the new Netflix element, an upcoming episode of the award-winning #BlackMirror will feature “live-action interactive programming” in the show’s fifth season, which is expected to debut sometime in December. The anthology drama makes sense to show off the new feature, as the show explores the dark side of technological inventions.
Netflix has actually already experimented with the feature for various kids’ programs, including “Puss in Book: Trapped in an Epic Tale” and “Buddy Thunderstruck: The Maybe Pile,” which gives viewers 10 to 15 seconds to select make choices in episodes using their TV remote or video game controller. After watching one ending, the viewer can go back and choose to watch the alternate ending.
“We are putting viewers in the driver’s seat,” Carla Engelbrecht Fisher, Netflix’s director of product innovation, told Variety last year.
“This is very different for Netflix. Not only did the company have to tweak some of its back-end technology to integrate interactive content into its catalog, Netflix and its studio partners also had to figure out how to best tell these kinds of stories,” she said.
The plans for the adults shows are still private, but sources say Netflix plans to debut these choose your own adventure specials by the end of the year.
So tell us, #Roommates, will you be watching these Netflix specials and getting your own adventure on? Let us know!
