If you think you’ve watched just about every original series Netflix has to offer, be prepared to get introduced to their new series “The Get Down,” which is expected to make it’s debut later on this year. The upcoming drama series will feature thirteen, one-hour episodes and is described as a musical drama series.
Developed by Baz Luhrmann (The Great Gatsby) and Shawn Ryan, the series follows a group of South Bronx teenagers in NYC during the 1970’s. The series is described as, “A mythic saga of how New York at the brink of bankruptcy gave birth to hip-hop, punk and disco.” The group of teens express themselves through music and depend on each other to get by.
One of the main characters include Shameik Moore (Dope), who will play Shaolin Fantastic, “a child of the streets, thrill-seeking, unpredictable, eccentric but above all, enigmatic.” And Jaden Smith has landed himself a recurring role as Marcus “Dizzee” Kipling, a “psychedelically talented and enigmatic graffiti writer raised in the South Bronx.”
