#Roommates, we know you were all devastated when it was confirmed that the Duke Of Hastings, Regé-Jean Page, would not be returning for the next season of Netflix hit series ‘Bridgerton‘—but maybe this latest news about the series is enough to pull you back in. It has just been announced that a “Bridgerton” spin-off series is officially in the works and it will focus on the origins of Queen Charlotte.
@Deadline exclusively reports, Netflix is continuing its commitment to the ‘Bridgerton’ universe after previously renewing the show for a third and fourth season. The streaming service gave fans the news they’ve likely been waiting for, as a spin-off of the series has officially been given the green light. Netflix and Shonda Rhimes’ Shondaland production company are gearing up for a limited ‘Bridgerton’ prequel series based on the origins of Queen Charlotte—which will place Shonda back in the writer’s seat. The limited series is described as centering on the rise and love life of young Queen Charlotte, the fan-favorite character from the show.
Additionally, the forthcoming spinoff will also feature the origin stories of young Violet Bridgerton and Lady Danbury. Shonda Rhimes will once again serve as executive producer. Speaking about the new show, she said, “As we continue to expand the world of ‘Bridgerton,’ we now have the opportunity to devote even more of the Shondaland fold to the ‘Bridgerton’-verse. We’ve worked with Jess Brownell for over a decade and have long wanted to find the right project to place in her hands. When it came time to pass the baton, I knew this unique voice was vital to the future of the show.”
As we previously reported, ahead of its second season premiere, Netflix renewed its top-rated original series of all-time for a third and fourth season last month. While fans are heartbroken that Regé-Jean Page will no longer be part of the series, Shonda Rhimes is confident that they will still love the show and what’s in store.
“This two-season pickup is a strong vote of confidence in our work and I feel incredibly grateful to have partners as collaborative and creative as Netflix. Betsy and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue bringing the world of ‘Bridgerton’ to a worldwide audience,” she said of the renewal.
