When it comes to being a legend in the game, it’s undeniable that Nas is indeed that. With a rap career that expands over decades, you have to put respect on his name. Although Hip Hop’s sound has changed since he arrived on the scene in the early ’90s, Nas is still familiar with what’s going on today.
During a recent interview with @Financialtimes, he touched on several things from social media, his latest studio album, “King’s Disease,” the late Amy Winehouse, and more. He spoke with Thomas Hobbs, and the interview got interesting when he talked about today’s current rappers. Nas said, “I appreciate what’s out there, but there’s no one keeping me up at night. I hear a new rap record and think it’s great, but I don’t listen to it the next week.”
When getting specific about rappers who impress him, Nas spoke about fellow New Yorker, the late Pop Smoke whose debut album, “Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon,” is currently breaking milestones on Billboard. Nas said, “We were happy to see that young king come up. He was a breath of fresh air. The drill movement in London, Chicago, and New York is really exciting.” Thomas suggested he’d sound great over a beat by east London drill producer 808Melo, and Nas excitedly agreed, saying, “Yeah man, yeah, yeah!”
Fans might be wondering what Nas is up to outside of working on music. Nas discussed that his many business ventures are keeping him busy. He currently has his own venture capital fund called ”Queensbridge Venture Partners.” According to Crunchbase, the company has a history of engaging in highly competitive and visible markets. They have even made investments in brands many of us are familiar with, including; “Dropbox,” “Lyft,” and “Genius.”
Roomies, do yall think Nas’ opinion about the state of Hip Hop is accurate?
