TSR Updatez: The Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office in Louisiana announced it is dropping the rape charges it brought against Mystikal due to lack of evidence.
The grand jury in his case found that there wasn’t enough evidence to move forward with the charges, a spokesperson for the DA’s office told TMZ.
Mystikal maintained his innocence in the case and his attorney, Joel Peace, told TMZ the charges went away because “new scientific evidence emerged causing the Grand Jury to take a second look at the rape allegations made against [him].”
Mystikal turned himself in back in August 2018 on a first-degree rape and second-degree kidnapping charges stemming from a 2016 invident involving a woman at a casino where he was performing. Mystikal ended up spending 18 months behind bars but was finally able to his $3 million bond back in February thanks to an advance he got from a new recording deal.
Also indicted on the same charges for his alleged involvement, is 26-year-old Averweone Darnell Holman, whose bond was also set at $3 million.
Tenichia Monieck Wafford has reportedly been indicted for obstruction of justice after police claimed she tried to make the alleged victim to repeal her story. Wafford’s bond was set at $500,000.
Wafford claimed the victim was lying about her story. The details about the assault weren’t immediately available.
Prosecutors offered Mystikal a plea deal before the case ever went to trial but he rejected the offer. Mystikal’s defense teams believed the alleged victim had major credibility issues and were more than ready to have their day in court.
Since his release, Mystikal went back to work in the studio and booking gigs. He performed at a festival in Orlando back in April.
