Protesters took to #Paterson’s City Hall tonight to demand justice for 27-year-old #JameekLowery, who passed away within 48 hours of posting a #FacebookLive video in which he was seen asking officers at #PatersonPolice headquarters for help.
His family claims he turned up at a hospital where it appeared he had been beaten. He passed away shortly after and now protesters are joining Lowery’s family in raising questions about Jameek’s death as they suspect foul play and they believe the police have the answers.
“I feel hurt. I feel a loss. My heart is broken,” said Lowery’s mother Patrice King, according to #PatersonTimes. “I need my son. I just need my damn son. I won’t get the chance to hug him. I won’t get the chance to tell him I love him. It hurts so bad. I just feel like giving up.”
Protesters could be heard chanting, “no justice, no peace” while holding up signs that read “He asked for help” and “Justice 4 Mickey,” and “We want answers.”
Video from the scene shows protesters running from what appears to be tear gas. It wasn’t immediately clear if any of the protesters were seriously injured. We’ll keep you updated on this story!
