Roommates, Mulatto may be having a breakout year with her music, but she has also found herself at the center of controversy on more than one occasion. Following increasing critiques about her offensive stage name, Mulatto also is dealing with fans accusing her of being a colorist—claims which had her clapping back on social media.
Mulatto is quickly realizing that the things you say online will eventually come back to haunt you, regardless if you have changed your viewpoint since then. After she recently hinted that she will most likely be changing her stage name, following very intense criticism from the Black community who find the racial slur insensitive, Mulatto is now addressing claims that she said that colorism is a thing of the past.
The drama apparently happened earlier this week after Mulatto joined a conversation on Clubhouse—an audio-based social media app that is becoming increasingly popular among celebrities. Shortly after Mulatto’s Clubhouse appearance, people claimed they had heard her deny the existence of colorism, which is typically an in-group form of prejudice in favor of lighter skin.
Fans on social media went into overdrive and dragged Mulatto for her alleged problematic comments, which caused her to respond.
She posted the following on Twitter to clear up the drama, writing:
“I WOULD NEVER SAY NO S**T LIKE COLORISM DOESN’Y EXIST! Please stop with the false narrative!”
It appears that Mulatto is having a very rough few months.
