Another legend is gone but never forgotten, as we all mourn the loss of ‘The Greatest’ champ in sports history, we remember his powerful words that touched fans inside and outside of the ring!
The three-time winning champ was born on 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky, and was sent to the gates of heaven at 74 on June 3, 2016 under respiratory issues in Phoenix-area hospital.
The “Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee” undefeated champ stuck for what he believed in since the age of 12, when he first began training to fight. His bravery spoke volumes to all once speaking his mind on race issues and the problematic time during the Vietnam War, all while sustaining quickness and skill in the ring.
Formally known as Cassius Clay, his most memorable fights was “The Thrilla and the Manilla” and “The Rumble in the Jungle.”
Here are the most influential quotes he has said during the span of his career:
1. “He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life.”
2. “To make America the greatest is my goal/So I beat the Russian, I beat the Pole/And for the USA won the Medal of Gold/Italians said ‘You’re greater than the Cassius his old.”
3. “I hated every minute of training, but I said, ‘Don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.”
4. “It’s the repetition of affirmations that leads to belief. And once that belief becomes a deep conviction, things begin to happen.”
