Mother Files Lawsuit Against City Of Flint For Handcuffing Her 7-Year-Old Son

A Michigan mother wants the Flint Police Department taken out of elementary schools in her city. She recently filed a lawsuit against the city of Flint after a school officer handcuffed her 7-year-old son with ADHD.

The incident happened back in 2015 during an afterschool program. The federal lawsuit claims he was handcuffed for about an hour for kicking a cart and running around the bleachers. The suit is claiming the police violated the Americans with Disabilities Act and the U.S. Constitution, and now she’s seeking monetary damages and for the actions to be declared unlawful.

“When I walked in, he just jumped up and started crying,” his mom Chrystal McCadden said during a news conference. She went on to say that the officer didn’t have a key for the handcuffs and was supposedly waiting for it to be brought by another officer.

“How do you handcuff someone and don’t have a key?” she asked. “How do you handcuff a 7-year-old child?”

“Kids are gonna horseplay,” she added.

The boy is now 10 years old, and according to WILX News 10, he was humiliated, traumatized and now has trouble sleeping.
